Inspired by memories from our own childhood, we began photographing children in Kindergartens all over Germany. What was meant as nice keepsakes for their parents soon evolved into something much bigger.
We learnt that children can teach us something that we as adults have long forgotten. They show us how easy it is to live in the moment, to do whatever makes them happy, they let us in to their own world. That said, they don´t let us in if we force them to. Children are free spirits who have their own mind and if we try to animate or even force them to smile, to pose or to do something we want them to do, they naturally built up a barrier. Children deserve to enjoy their childhood and to be free. As photographers, we want to encourage them in living their own dreams, doing as they wish and show them that they are perfect just as they are. They don´t need to pose or do anything just for a photo.
During our work in Kindergartens, we got reminded of our own childhood and how we used to live like there was no tomorrow. We weren´t scared of anything but were rather looking for excitement and joy.
Our series „Childhood: Life in Kindergarten“ explores the unburdened life of children while they spend their time in Kindergarten.
